Happy Anniversary

Yesterday Craig and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary! What a journey we've been on. I am so thankful for my sweet husband and the gift the Lord has given me. Not only did I become Craig's wife on the day we were married I also became Kayleigh's mom. The two things I always wanted to be a wife and mother! Thank you, Craig. Our life continues to be filled with love and joy amiss all the trials we've been through. We also continue to draw close to each other and to the Lord, He's so good to us. In six years we've had two children, purchased our first home and been through medical school! haha Just kidding but I do think we could pass as doctors! Sometimes I think, "no way has it been six years!" But on the other hand I think, "it's ONLY been six years?" I totally don't mean that in a bad way either.

Yesterday I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We went to dinner and some of our best friends joined us. It was so great to get to share our special day with such wonderful friends!

Happy Anniversary, Craig! Thanks for being a great husband!

Remembering Mrs. Woody

This afternoon I went to the funeral of Mrs. Naomi Woody. She was 97 years old and the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman. She truly loved the Lord and was a prayer warrior. She made blankets for babies at First Church where I was the Children's Pastor for 9 years. While I was on staff at First Church I had the privilege of taking baby bags to all the new moms. One of my favorite things to do was to tell these new mommies that Mrs. Woody had made a blanket for their baby and as she crocheted she prayed for the baby that would sleep on that blanket. I remember that I couldn't wait to be a mom so I could have a Mrs. Woody blanket! I was no longer on staff when I had Maddie and Mrs. Woody made two blankets for her, a summer and winter one! It was fabulous. When Fletcher was born we were no longer attending First Church, so no Mrs. Woody blanket. In August 2005, Fletcher was in very critical condition at Baptist Hospital and my sister organized a prayer vigil for him. Someone told Mrs. Woody about it and she asked to brought up to the hospital so she could pray for Fletcher. I'll never forget that day, as soon as I saw Mrs. Woody I began to weep. I felt like the Lord had sent the cavalry to pray for my sweet baby. I also had the most incredible peace after she prayed. I'm not sure, but I'd imagine that Mrs. Woody had probably not seen a baby intubated and at the time the doctors had paralyzed Fletcher so he could get some much needed rest. She saw Fletcher at one of his worst times and it troubled her a lot. We sat in the PICU waiting room and she cried for my sweet Fletcher telling me she could not understand how he could be so sick and have so many things wrong with him. She also gave me a blanket for him, that she had prayed over and she had anointed it with oil. She was truly an amazing woman who knew God's Word so well. She could bring a scripture into every sentence she spoke. What a great legacy she has left for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. What an inspiration she was to me and many others. At the service today I sat and wondered if her children had any idea what an influence she was on so many people. I sure hope so, it was a blessing to have her in my life. I told Craig today that I wish I had thought of taking a picture of Mrs. Woody at the hospital with Fletcher, I'm sad that I don't have one. But, I do have great memories of her that I'll treasure forever. I took some pictures of Maddie and Fletcher with their Mrs. Woody blankets this week. Maddie's blankets were up in her closet, I only used them when she was a tiny baby. I decided to tell her about Mrs. Woody and let her have the blankets to use. She knows they are very special. I have always used Fletcher's blanket, but I don't leave it at the Children's Center, I do get it out every time he comes home. Though I am sad that Mrs. Woody is no longer with us, I know she is in Heaven where she has longed to be. I love you, Mrs. Woody!

Happy Valentine's Day

We hope you all have a great day! Fletcher is doing a little better, he's still not feeling great. I think he's putting on his brave face and showing mommy how tough he is! Please continue to pray that he'll feel better soon. He's been stuck in his unit for almost 3 weeks! That means no school and no therapies! Just when we were beginning to make some progress...but, we've got nothing but time so maybe I should look at this like a long vacation! If only we were at Disney World! Well, I thought I'd share this Valentine picture of Fletcher and wish you all a great day! I am heading up to Maddie's school for her Valentine party. Today she gets to go to her friends Max and Zeke's house, she's pretty excited! I'll post more later!

Two sick kids...

Our sweet Fletcher is sick right now. He has a bacterial infection in his gut called CDIFF it is caused by too many antibiotics. Maddie is also home with a fever and as of yet no other symptoms, she is still asleep and it's 10:00 am! Hopefully the rest will help her feel better. I'm really struggling today, I want so badly to be with Fletcher and hold him and let him know that he's not alone, but I need to be here with my Maddie. It's in times like these that it's so hard to have Fletcher away from us, but I know if he was home and sick I'd be struggling to take care of him and everyone else. Well, I need to go for now, Maddie is awake and I need to take care of her. More later...

Reading, Blogging and Bubba!

Well, it's happening...Maddie started reading yesterday! She found this book that my sister Kim gave her for her second birthday, the classic Dick and Jane. She is really reading you guys. She read 60 pages of the book to Craig last night! We're so proud of her! And she's pretty excited about reading, too. Maybe we can turn the TV off for awhile!

Kayleigh is turning out to be quite the computer whiz! Last night I was showing her my blog and she thought it was so cool. Then there were a few things I wanted to change and I, of course had no clue how to change them so she sat down and just clicked away! I'm so amazed at the knowledge kids today have of computers! We're thinking of letting her start a blog. I have been so leary of letting her do anything on the web, you know myspace and all it's nightmares. I really worry about internet predators and am thinking a blog might be the way to go. We'll see...

Fletcher is doing okay. His unit is closed due to the fact that every kid in there is sick with some kind of stomach bug. We have been praying constantly that the Lord would protect Fletcher from all the germs floating around and so far He's answering those prayers! But, since his unit is closed he isn't being able to have any of his therapies or go to school! He can't leave the unit at all, unless he has a doctors appointment. Well, yesterday he an appointment with an ENT who specializes in the airway. Fletcher has had some tracheal bleeding and was crying (real tears and everything) when we suctioned his trach. This is not normal for him, he's usually a champ when it comes to being suctioned! Well, we've never seen this doctor (Dr. Digoy) before so he doesn't know Fletcher and he likes to do his assessments in the OR. My first thought was, "Are you kidding me? You're the first doctor I've met that hasn't given any thought at all about putting Fletcher under anesthesia!" Dr. Digoy went down Fletcher's trach with a catheter that was also a camera and it totally stressed Fletcher out! So, if Fletcher was sedated, Dr. Digoy would be able to take the trach out and look at what's going on in his airway and look at his ears. Fletcher also has another really bad ear infection. We just finished an antibiotic for an infection in both of his ears last Friday and he already has another one! So, I think it will be a good thing for us to let Dr. Digoy get a good look at Fletcher. I don't have any details such as dates yet but when I do I'll let you all know! Gotta go for now!

Be blessed!
